At Private Box, we believe that moving physical mail to digital workflows is inherently a step toward a more sustainable future. However, we recognise that our operations—including freight, power usage, and office waste—still generate carbon emissions. We are committed to minimising our environmental impact and aligning our business with the global effort to limit warming to 1.5°C.
To support a 1.5°C pathway, Private Box focuses on a two-pronged approach of continuous operational efficiency and voluntary offsetting.
Emissions Measurement & Reduction: We utilise local frameworks, such as the New Zealand Government’s Climate Action Toolbox, to estimate and track our annual carbon footprint. We aim to keep our operational footprint low by optimising digital mail scanning, reducing physical storage requirements, and encouraging remote operational efficiencies.
Voluntary Carbon Offsetting: For the emissions we cannot yet eliminate (such as unavoidable customer freight), we proactively purchase verified carbon credits each year.
We believe in transparent, self-guided climate action without inflating administrative costs. We track our impact publicly and invite our customers to view our historical calculations and offsetting receipts directly on our blog:
2023 Impact: Measured footprint of 18.66 tonnes of CO2, offset via verified carbon reduction projects.
2021/2022 Impact: Measured footprint of 10.37 tonnes of CO2 offset via Toitū Envirocare.
Our Net Zero Target:
Private Box commits to maintaining a carbon-neutral operation annually while actively working to reduce our year-over-year emissions relative to our baseline, in line with New Zealand’s broader 2050 Net Zero goals.
