The simplest way to get proof of address is via IRD.
The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) is New Zealand’s government agency responsible for managing tax and providing various services, including issuing IRD numbers. If you have an IRD number, you can use it to obtain proof of address through your myIR account. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Apply for an IRD Number (if you don’t have one)

Step 2: Log in to myIR
Once you have your IRD number, log in to your myIR account:
myIR Login
Step 3: Obtain Proof of Address
To get your proof of address, follow these steps:
- After logging in, click “I want to…” in the top navigation.
- Select “Review my IRD numbers”.
- Look for your main IRD number and print the details.
Step 4: Update Your Address (if it’s incorrect)
If the address shown is incorrect, update it to reflect your Private Box physical address. To do this:
- In myIR, click “I want to…” in the top navigation.
- Select “Manage names and addresses”.
- Click on the “Addresses” tab.
- Update your “main address” and postal address to the address of your Private Box.
